almost a month ago, on valentine’s day, my boyfriend gave me a flower. a carnation. i usually dry and keep roses but a carnation didn’t seem like it would dry very well so i lazily placed it in a half full cup of water i had been drinking a few days before that i already had lying on my nightstand at my dad’s house. i filled the rest of the cup up with some new alkaline water i was drinking.
i let the flower sit there for almost a month now and it died fairly quickly, because it wasn’t exposed to much sunlight and it was so lazily cared for. it went from a bright red to a dull brownish violet color and shriveled up. now, i’m a bit of a lazy slob so i didn’t get around to throwing it away. i left it sitting in that same original cup of water. on Friday i cleaned up most of my room before leaving for my mom’s house for the weekend but still left the flower. and it looked the same.. dead, shriveled, wilted, sad, dark.
when i got home just now i noticed something different just before throwing it away. the flower sprouted a new bud! it has been dead for at least 2 weeks and sitting out of sunlight in the same old cup of water on my nightstand, and a bud emerged entirely in the two days i was gone.
the dead flower grew itself a friend hahahaha
nature is awesome
